Here is your at-a-glance guide to understanding the Federal Tax Credit that is available with the installation of energy efficient Hunter Douglas Window Treatments
Federal tax credits via the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015, which gave federal tax credits on select energy-efficient products, have been reinstated for 2016. It’s important to note the products must be purchased between January 1, 2016 and December 31, 2016 and must be installed by December 31, 2016. The tax credit can be submitted according to the limitations of the IRS. We do recommend that you consult a tax professional for more information.
How much is the Federal Tax Credit (& the fine print you should be aware of)?
Qualifying products are eligible for a tax credit of 10% of the cost, up to $500 in total during the 2016 tax year. $500 is the maximum combined total amount that can be claimed for all purchases of qualifying energy efficient products placed in service during this period and is subject to reduction in the amount of Section 25C tax credits taken in prior years. The tax credit for your qualifying Hunter Douglas product is 10% of the purchase price to you for the product only (excluding sales tax, measuring and installation charges), up to $500. The tax credit is subject to a lifetime limitation of $500. If you take advantage of any Hunter Douglas or other rebate program and you receive a rebate on your purchase price, you must reduce the amount that you compute the credit on by the rebate received. Ask the dealer to provide an itemized bill for the purchase of the qualifying product. You should reduce that amount by any rebate received and any sales tax paid. For more information, please visit the Hunter Douglas Website.
It’s as simple as 1-2-3!
1. Purchase any qualifying energy-efficient Hunger Douglas products within the following collections: Alustra® Duette® Architella® or Duette® Architella® honeycomb shades of certain sizes with qualifying fabrics and lift systems that are inside-mounted over double-glazed windows.
2. Save your original purchase receipts for the amount paid for the qualifying products (Note: measuring and installation charges are not eligible for the tax credit)
3. Download the Hunter Douglas Manufacturer’s Certification Statements & take it with your sales receipt to your tax professional to determine your eligibility for the tax credit.
